
On the first day of September, major automakers released their latest monthly sales data, showing that the auto market was not slow in the off-season in August this year. Driven by the substantial growth of new energy vehicles and overseas markets, sales of many major auto groups such as SAIC Group and Geely Auto soared, and many new forces in the auto industry also set historical sales highs.

Specifically, BYD sold 373,600 vehicles in August, roughly the same as the 373,100 vehicles sold in the same period last year. From January to August, BYD has sold a total of 2,863,900 vehicles, of which 630,700 were sold overseas.
Following closely behind, SAIC Motor sold 363,000 vehicles in August, a 41% year-on-year increase and a 7.7% month-on-month increase. From January to August, SAIC Motor achieved cumulative wholesale sales of 2.753 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 17.9%.
FAW's vehicle sales in August exceeded 277,800 units, a year-on-year increase of 3.7%. From January to August, FAW's cumulative sales exceeded 2,081,300 units, a year-on-year increase of 5.5%.
Geely Auto's passenger car sales reached 250,200 units in August, a 38% year-on-year increase and a 5% month-on-month increase. From January to August, Geely sold a total of 1.8971 million vehicles, a 47% year-on-year increase, achieving 63% of its annual sales target.
Chery Group sold 242,700 vehicles in August, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%. Notably, Chery exported 129,500 vehicles in August, a year-on-year increase of 32.3%, setting a new monthly export record and marking the fourth consecutive month of exports exceeding 100,000 vehicles. From January to August this year, Chery Group's cumulative sales reached 1.7273 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 14.5%.
BAIC Group's vehicle sales exceeded 135,000 units in August, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%. From January to August, BAIC Group's cumulative vehicle sales reached 1.07 million units, a year-on-year increase of 5.3%.
Great Wall Motors sold 115,600 new vehicles in August, a year-on-year increase of 22.33%, achieving its best August sales performance in history. From January to August, Great Wall has sold a total of 789,700 new vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 5.94%.
In the performance reports released by emerging forces, the delivery volumes of Leapmotor, Xpeng and NIO hit record highs, while Ideal and Hongmeng Intelligent Driving saw consecutive declines on a month-on-month basis.
Leapmotor delivered a record 57,066 vehicles across its entire lineup in August, maintaining its leading monthly sales position among emerging power brands for six consecutive months. Xpeng Motors delivered a total of 37,709 vehicles in August, achieving both year-on-year and month-on-month growth and also setting a new record high.
With 31,305 deliveries, NIO surpassed Li Auto in monthly sales for the first time in 34 months, after lagging behind Li Auto for nearly three years. Li Auto delivered 28,529 new vehicles in August, marking its third consecutive decline since May this year.
In August, Hongmeng Zhixing delivered 44,579 vehicles across the board, a further month-on-month decrease of 6.64% following a 9.47% month-on-month decrease in the previous month.
Zeekr's two brands (Lynk & Co and Zeekr) delivered 44,843 vehicles in August, essentially the same as the previous month. Lantu Auto also delivered 13,505 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 119% and a month-on-month increase of 11.29%. Avita sold 10,565 vehicles in August, a slight increase of 5% month-on-month.
