On June 5, China National Geographic and CATL jointly released the first batch of "Zero Carbon Destinations·Pioneer List" in Beijing. The "Zero Carbon Destinations·Pioneer List" released this time is a destination evaluation index system based on "systematic emission reduction" as the core. It was selected after a rigorous review by a jury composed of China National Geographic, CATL, and well-known domestic and foreign experts in the fields of sustainable development, climate change, carbon emission reduction economy, and natural sciences.
This review strictly follows the four core evaluation systems of "system design, technology emission reduction, resource regeneration, and ecological carbon fixation", and systematically inspects the participating scenic spots from 6 dimensions and more than 50 core indicators to form a complete evaluation system from source emission reduction to terminal neutralization. Five scenic spots in Shaoguan, Guangdong, including Danxiashan National Nature Reserve, Huangshan Scenic Area, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Changbaishan Huamei Shengdi National Tourism Resort, and Wuyishan National Park Recreation Area, have become the first batch of benchmark destinations selected. These scenic spots have demonstrated innovative practices in zero-carbon travel, green electricity application, ecological carbon fixation, and carbon sink development, achieving a win-win situation of ecological protection and economic income increase.

The first batch of "Zero Carbon Destination Pioneer List" was released
The release of the list is not only a recognition of these outstanding scenic spots, but more importantly, it sets a goal: to encourage and promote 100 scenic spots to make low-carbon transformation and upgrade to net zero carbon emissions within three years. Starting from the second half of 2025, the list will be updated and released quarterly, and more scenic spots will have the opportunity to participate in the selection through targeted recommendations and public registration. The establishment of this mechanism will undoubtedly inject new vitality into the development of the zero-carbon cultural tourism industry.
At the press conference, CATL, relying on its deep accumulation in the field of zero-carbon technology, proposed a zero-carbon cultural tourism solution with "four transformations" as the core. This solution includes four aspects: electrification of transportation operations, green electrification of scenic spot energy supply, intelligent energy and carbon management, and commercialization of zero-carbon tourism. Through innovations in power batteries and charging and swapping technologies, CATL helps destinations achieve a comprehensive electrification transformation in the fields of water, land and air transportation; through innovations in zero-carbon core technologies such as light, storage, charging and discharge, it builds smart microgrids to enable destinations to achieve "green electricity freedom"; through the construction of digital energy and carbon emission management platforms, it provides destinations with safe and reliable energy management, and helps them efficiently develop carbon sink projects and participate in carbon market transactions; at the same time, CATL also develops tourist routes and supporting facilities featuring new energy experiences to attract more high-spending tourists who pay attention to environmental protection to the destination.

CATL and Wuyishan National Park sign an agreement to launch a zero-carbon scenic area transformation project
It is worth mentioning that CATL and Wuyishan National Park signed a strategic cooperation agreement at the press conference, officially launching the zero-carbon scenic spot transformation project. The launch of this project marks the substantial stage of the list release from "selection" to "co-construction". In the future, CATL will carry out in-depth cooperation with more scenic spots to accelerate the demonstration and application of advanced zero-carbon technologies and maximize the economic value of zero-carbon technology in the cultural and tourism industry.

China's first "Zero Carbon Destination Self-Driving Alliance" officially launched
In addition, the Zero Carbon Destination Organizing Committee and the owner clubs of five car companies, including Avita, Polar Fox, Lantu, GAC Trumpchi, and Mengshi, jointly launched the first "Zero Carbon Destination Self-Driving Alliance" in China. This alliance will combine the destination's zero-carbon tourism products and experiences to provide tourists with a brand-new zero-carbon tourism experience in the form of self-driving tours. It is expected that starting from the second half of 2025, the "Zero Carbon Destination Self-Driving Alliance" will officially start the "Zero Carbon Journey". In the future, more than 20 car companies will join the alliance, which will not only bring double growth in tourist visits and revenue to the destination, but also provide more than 100,000 car friends with a pioneering zero-carbon tourism experience.
The release of the "Zero-Carbon" Destination Pioneer List and the zero-carbon cultural tourism solution proposed by CATL will accelerate the demonstration application of advanced zero-carbon technologies, maximize the economic value of zero-carbon technology in the cultural tourism industry, promote the high-quality development of the new zero-carbon cultural tourism economy, and point out the direction for the development of the zero-carbon cultural tourism industry.
