On November 5th, the Porsche China R&D Center, located in the Shanghai Hongqiao Business District, officially opened.
This is reportedly Porsche's first large-scale overseas R&D base outside of Weissach, Germany, which will greatly enhance local innovation capabilities and marks another important milestone in Porsche's "In China, For China" strategy.

The operational China R&D center covers an area of over 10,000 square meters and integrates R&D, procurement, and quality. It has greater autonomy in decision-making and execution and currently boasts a core team of over 300 engineers.
The China R&D center is currently focused on developing infotainment systems and driver assistance solutions for the Chinese market. According to reports, the first major achievement of local development—a new generation of China-specific in-vehicle infotainment system—is planned to be featured in multiple Porsche models starting in mid-2026.

Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen Group and Porsche AG, and Alexander Pollich, President and CEO of Porsche China.
“China is leading the way in the future of mobility, encompassing multiple dimensions including electrification, digitalization, and new luxury concepts,” said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, at the opening ceremony. “To address this profound transformation, remote insights are insufficient to accurately grasp local trends; we must be rooted here. We see our China R&D Center as a strategic pillar, connecting German engineering strength with China’s digital future, enabling us to learn more broadly, act faster, and strengthen Porsche’s global R&D capabilities.”
"The official operation of the Porsche China R&D Center marks a substantial deepening of our commitment to the Chinese market," said Alexander Pollich, President and CEO of Porsche China. It is understood that the Porsche China R&D Center leverages the strengths of Porsche's engineering expertise combined with local technological innovation to significantly shorten the R&D cycle from several years to several months, enabling it to respond to the ever-changing needs of Chinese customers more quickly and accurately.
