As the first A-class auto show in the second half of the year, the 2025 Chengdu International Automotive Exhibition (hereinafter referred to as "Chengdu Auto Show") will kick off at the China Western International Expo City from August 29 to September 7.
Many media outlets have noticed that although the exhibition scale this year still reached 220,000 square meters, bringing together nearly 120 brands and more than 1,600 models, there was an obvious change: more than 20 car brands were absent.
According to statistics, compared with last year, the brands that will not participate in the Chengdu Auto Show this year are Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Maserati, Aston Martin, Lotus Sports Car, Lexus, Genesis, Jaguar Land Rover, Infiniti, Dongfeng Honda, Kia, Dongfeng Peugeot, Dongfeng Citroen, Chevrolet, FAW Bestune, Dongfeng Fengxing, Baojun, JIMSON, Polestar, Skyworth, Yuanhang Automobile, Nezha Automobile, etc.
Since nearly half of the absent brands were luxury car brands, Hall 16, traditionally reserved for luxury cars, was replaced this year by brands like Xiaomi, Hongqi, GAC Honda, and CATL. Furthermore, due to the large number of absent brands, three domestic brands—BYD, Chery, and Changan—were able to fully occupy Halls 9, 5, and 10, respectively, at this year's Chengdu Auto Show. Furthermore, domestic brands like Great Wall, Hongmeng Intelligent Driving, Geely, and BAIC Motors all significantly expanded their booths compared to previous years.
Outside analysts believe that the large-scale absence of more than 20 automakers, especially luxury automakers, from the Chengdu Auto Show is due to the fact that many multinational automakers are experiencing a continuous decline in market sales and a sharp decline in profits. In this case, whether or not to invest tens of millions of yuan in auto show projects has become a rational choice for everyone to control marketing costs.
